Dotterel at Covehithe and a walk around Dunwich Forest. 27 August 2017

We wanted a leg-stretcher today. Belinda wanted to go coastal and there was a Dotterel at Covehithe. No prizes for guessing where we went!

The lovely juv Dotterel was present on arrival in the clifftop field immediately north of the road and it was a nice tame one that allowed approach down to about 4-5 yards. Even with us that close it spent most of its time dozing so I had plenty of shots with it's eyes closed!

A walk around Dunwich Forest and the north part of Westleton Heath after that revealed healthy numbers of Grayling with c20 seen. For late August there was also a good selection of other butterflies still on the wing - Small Copper, Small Heath, Comma, Green-veined White, Speckled Wood, Gatekeeper, Meadown Brown and Red Admiral. Birdwise just a family of Coal Tits with their yellowy young, Green Woodpecker and Common Buzzard were seen.
